Dont Get Beamed Up!
Brief
I had to design a How-to poster that showed my ability to create a composition that shows how I use typography, as well as grids and other graphic design elements. The guide needed to have 8 clear steps to follow as well as graphics to go along with them.

Challenge
I wanted to make an instructionals poster that stands out, that is why I chose "dont get beamed up" which is a instructional poster made to look like a spaceship. As you look around the poster you will find that if the steps necessary are not taken than you are vulnerable just like the poeple showcased in the "water tanks" were. I took a lot of inspiration from other work that I saw on Behance to create my poster.

Ideating/Brainstorming
To start I began with brainstorming for 4 different ideas. I knew that i wanted them to be a little bit weird from the start. I wanted to end up with a topic that I wasnt very farmiliar with so I could break out of what was comfortable to me. With the topic that was chosen, I started by looking through other work that I was interested in and wanted to base my design on. I created a moodboard of all my inspiratoin on behance. I wanted to pay attention to the effects that they used on the posters, and many of them were using a very heavy grain which I liked a lot. My goal is not to scare but, to make people aware of how vulnerable to aliens they really are.
Sketches
Beginning this I had a very clear idea of what I wanted my composition to look like, but I found that every idea I had seemed very unorigional. After getting some feedback I felt like I had a clear path that I was going to take for my design. I used a limited color pallete of grays pinks and greens to create everything. i started by sketching the spaceship that was goign to be the home of all my information and I went from there. My information is lined up in a chronological order reading from left to right.
Procecss
After I had laid out all of my rough sketches I started to go into detail with them. I began by creating the spaceship, as this was one of the most important parts of my graphic. I wanted to capture a scene like you were looking right into a spaceship. After that I started to work on the "water tanks" that are holding each instance of a step being broken. If you loook closely you can see that each thing inside the tank corresponds with the step written above it. Underneath each there is also an explanation of why. Afterwards I started to create my alien that peeks his head as well as him zapping another victim.
Final Poster
Refelction
In this project I took myself out of my comfort zone and tried to assess something that i wouldnt normally gravitate to. I wanted to make sure that my layout was solid before I did anything else, becasue my layout was so important. After I had it solidified my challenge was to try to add details. Overall, I liked the final outcome of my poster. If I had more time I would like to iterate it some more. I knwo that the design can be taken further so it is even more solidified and clean.
